Website started

I have started the website design.  We looked at the different websites and have set up on Scoutlander.com.  This is a website that is setup for scouts. I am in the process of getting the site setup. I have finished a preliminary public page. I'm  getting the Private side started.

The scouts gave me some good ideas for the website content for the private part of the site.  We're going to include:
  1. Permission slip boiler plate.
  2. Link to the facebook account
  3. Group photo of the scouts.
  4. Calendar of Events
  5. Campouts
  6. Patrol Yells and Flags.
Here's the Website,  Look for the content to improve.

Letter to the Troop for the Diversity Ticket

For the Court of Honor in December we are going to have a Heritage Food Theme for the meeting that Night.  What we are asking the Scouts to do is to bring a Dish that reflects their Heritage, and for the scouts to speak why this is dish is important to their Heritage/Culture.
The dish should reflect one part of their culture (heritage, religious background, region of the country a relative might have grown up in why their ancestors might have made this dish.  Was this dish made only for special occasions, or because some ingredient was available in the area.
Why distribute this now?   We want the boys to have some time to do the research, think about what they want to bring, and to make sure we can setup the night well ahead of time.  Will the dish need to be heated?  Does it need to have silverware/plates to eat it? Etc.  Please take time to think about this with your scout, and return the sheet back to us by November 3rd.
We are going to have the Court of Honor in the Parish Hall on this date, so we use the ovens to heat things up if necessary, and have facilities to clean up.

Website Designs

I have been looking at different Scout websites and I have decided on the following Public content so far:
  1.  Chartered organization
  2. When we meet and where.
  3. How to join link to troop email system
  4. What we do ( camping, hiking etc.)
I will be discussing next week with the Troop Youth leadership on what content in addition to that should be featured.
The site will have a Public and Private section

Planning for Diversity Ticket

Discussed the Diversity ticket with some of the other Troop ASM's and I have agreement that I'll write something up and hand it out at the next Troop meeting.  This will be for the Court of Honor in December, so I'll have to hand it out multiple times.   Scoutmaster will be discussing if we can hold the Court of Honor in the area with a kitchen as we will be serving food.

Website Guidelines I am following

Here the BSA Guidelines I am following for the Website design.
BSA Guidelines

Here's the District Guidelines I plan on following:  Scatcook Recommnedations

Ticket Five

Write a troop guide for the current and incoming scouts to document the contacts, meeting details, positions and responsibilities, logistical things, advancement, conduct, uniform, documentation guide, code of conduct.  Once complete, the document will be turned over to the committee for annual updating.

Ticket Four

For Diversity awareness, have the Scouts bring food from their different ethnic backgrounds to a Court of Honor.  The Scouts will be required to discuss their heritage, and how the dish that they brought represents that.

Ticket Three

Following BSA guidelines, work with the youth leadership for content, complete a Troop Website, publish the site on the internet, and get it listed in the applicable search engines for the Troop to have a web presence.  When complete pass the management of the site to youth leadership and committee.

Ticket Two

After working with the Quartermaster to categorize content, build 2 Patrol boxes as part of an organization effort for the Troop Patrols to get all of the Patrol gear centralized into one easy to locate place. Archive final design with the Scribe or Historian for future reference.  The contents of the patrol box will be posted in the box and maintained by the Quartermaster.

Ticket One

Schedule CPR classes for the Scout Troop and Adult leaders, to improve myself and be ready for and emergency.    As part of this effort, I will be offering the CPR Skills to Scouts and other Adult leaders of my Troop.
